If you missed the Dr. Oz episode for January 12, 2012 with Goldie Hawn then here’s your full recap of her age-defying secrets.

Goldie Hawn’s Secrets to Staying Young

Goldie has a saying to staying happy: Cut the negative, focus on the positive and habituate the positive to get your brain on the right track.
Another way to stay happy and positive is to take a second to breathe before reacting. The middle of the brain, the amygdalae, controls reactions, and when you take a second to breathe before reacting, the amygdalae retracts again, causing you to calm down.
Gratitude is another way Goldie stays happy. She says she’s always

10 Mindful Minutes

10 Mindful Minutes: Giving Our Children–and Ourselves–the Social and Emotional Skills to Reduce Stress and Anxiety for Healthier, Happy Lives is Goldie’s book which helps children and adults for the Hawn foundation, helps to raise optimism and helps reduce stress.
Some of Goldie’s golden rules:

  1. Take brain breaks: every brain needs a break, they can’t focus for endless amounts of time. When brains are stressed, you don’t learn and you can’t remember because the hypothalamus is overworked.
  2. Focus, focus, focus: slow down and focus on one thing. She has the jelly bean test. You close your eyes, and take an object, she uses a jelly bean, and focus on the size, shape, then put it in your mouth and roll it around, but don’t’ chew it. Chew it and sense the changes and swallow. This teaches you to think about mundane experiences differently, and enjoy them.
  3. Kindness is key: She has a pillow in her house that says “The smile you give is the one you give back.” Just like that, kindness isn’t just a word, it’s an action and it’s important to remember that all day.

The Y Lift

Without surgery or anesthesia, in 30 minutes, you can put back volume in your face, creating a Y shape with higher cheek bones a tighter face. As you get older, your face elongates, which causes your skin to sag. Using needles, which are used close to your temple, it builds up from the bottom up.
