If you missed the Dr. Oz Show for January 17th, 2012, this is your full recap. Today, Dr. Oz thinks your “miracle” weight-loss supplements could be deadly, because they’re being spiked with prescription drugs.
Are Your Supplements Spiked?
Supplements can easily be bought, even ones that have been recalled, that are laced with prescription drugs added.
50 million Americans take weight-loss supplements, and this has become an epidemic with sometimes 9/10 samples being tampered with.
Dr. Oz sampled some weight-loss supplements, and one came back with Ciprofloxacin which treats Anthrax.
A few more came back with Sibutramine, which is banned because it causes heart attacks, strokes, and seizures. When it was a prescription drug, one dose could do this, but these pills have unpredictable amounts in them.
Here are a few more that were found:
Fenfluramine or FenFen, which damages heart valves.
Ephedrine, the Epi pen, which can cause high blood pressure.
Propranolol which is a beta blocker which masks the symptoms.
Drug Analogues – this makes it harder to see the drug. These have also never been tested on humans.
Who’s Spiking The Supplements?
Asia, mainly China is the worst place to find fake supplements. India, New Zealand, China and South America, send the ingredients to importers, who send it to manufacturers, that send to distributors, that put them out on the shelves.
Avoid anything that claims to be an alternative to a prescription.
Avoid supplements that are in a foreign language.
If you can’t find a company name, phone number, website, you don’t buy it.
If the pill doesn’t have markings on it.
Avoid miracle pills.
