Dr. Oz Show Today: What Diet Supplements Work And Don’t Work And Doctor’s Favorite Kitchen Cures

If you missed Dr. Oz on Tuesday, April 10th then this is your full recap. Today, Dr. Oz has on AJ Jacobs author of Drop Dead Healthy: One Man’s Humble Quest for Bodily Perfection who tested every diet and health products reveals what works and doesn’t work.

What Diets Work

AJ has taken the best advice from all the experts to create his own diet. His top three

1. Shop the perimeters of the grocery store for healthy food.
2. Eat the rainbow of fruits and vegetables
3. Eat like a baby.

His favorite motto is “Eat an apple a day to keep the appetite away.” Eating an apple will suppress the appetite as well as eating a bowl of soup.

Fidgeting can burn 300 calories a day. Sitting still according to AJ is the worst thing for your health.

Boost your Energy
Try the Sport Drink Spit – instead of drinking the sports drink that has tons of sugar, just swish it around and spit it out.
Chewdiasm – at least 20 chews per bite burns off more calories.
Play the Didgeridoo – this strengthens the throat muscles and reduces snoring.

Reprogram Your Taste Buds

A spoonful of brown sugar can make vegetables taste better if you don’t like vegetables.
Add anything crunchy, like cheetos on vegetables because we like crunchy food more.
Puree vegetables like squash or cauliflower and add it to cheese when making mac and cheese to get your extra vegetable servings for the day.
Eat in a quiet place. Studies show eating in a loud environment makes food taste worse.

Ultimate Antioxidant Guide

Kristin Kirkpatrick from the Cleveland Clinic is here to show us the benefit of antioxidants.
Vitamin A family enhances red blood cell function and prevents cancer. Find it in yellow and orange foods like carrots and squash. Cook the carrots whole so more nutrients come out. Bananas that are riper have higher antioxidants.

Green foods – broccoli, cabbage, parsley hold tons of iron to help the body. This is the most important group to eat everyday.

Purple foods prevent damage and help heal damage and you can find it in prunes, plums, berries. These also help eye health and prevent heart attacks.

24-Hour Antioxidant Diet Plan

Whole foods, not supplements is the way to go to get your daily dose.
Breakfast Power Smoothie: 1/2 cup wild blueberries, 1/2 cup blackberries, 1/2 cup strawberries, 1/2 cup raspberries, 1 cup unsweetened pomegranate juice. Berries need to move freely when you buy them.
One-Two Punch Lunch: 1 cup tomato soup with a green salad with kale and 1 cup broccoli florets. Combining this can help prevent prostate cancer.

Doctor’s Favorite Kitchen Cures

Donnica Moore is a doctor who says great cures come from your kitchen.
Splinters – A well ripened splinter can be taken out with a ripe banana peel. Cut the peel to the affected area and secure it to the area overnight. It breaks it down and makes splinters easier to remove.

Dandruff – Apple cider vinegar (Bragg – Apple Cider Vinegar, 32 oz liquid). 1/2 cup vinegar and 1/2 cup water together, spritz on scalp and wrap head with towel for 15 minutes. Wash, rinse and repeat. The first week do it three times in a row, then se 2x per week.

Muscle Cramps – Pickle juice has acid that help. Drink 2.5 oz at onset of the cramp and it’ll work in under 2 minutes – it’s been tested.

Calluses – Actual Madina Licorice Stick Natural Flavor - no not the candy, can get rid of calluses. Grind 4 sticks up and add 1/2 tsp sesame oil. Rub on the calluses at night

Three Bonus tips: Chew on sage to prevent bad breath. Lime juice and water put on bug bites can get rid of the itching. Raspberry tea can get rid of canker sores.
